• Control and monitor the quality of product, both imported and locally manufactured, for compliance with approved standards, in order to protect consumers from commercial fraud, safeguard the environment from ecologically hazardous goods and goods of inferior quality.
• Monitor the calibration of measurement equipment and organize legal and industrial metrology inspection.
• Execute, monitor, review, research and update laws and standards in respect to products and services in Bahrain
• Establish the basis on which conformity certificates and quality marks are issued and order to enhance the quality of national products.
• Establish and maintain the national laboratory for measurements as reference for national measurements in line with regional and international standards.
• Administer and operate the quality assurance and laboratories accreditation system.
• Coordinate with other regional, Arab and international standard organization development and implementation standards, in particular standardization and metrology organization for GCC countries and the Arabic organization for industrial development and mining. (the Arab center for standards and metrology)
• Review and arrange for the publication of approved national, GCC and other approved standards.
• Through a national program prepare standards for Bahrain keeping in mind regional and international standards.
• Provide technical and consultancy support to companies seeking information regarding national standards.
• Establish and develop a standard and metrology information develop
• Implement the WTO TBT agreement in accordance with Bahrain’s commitment to the WTO
• Spread awareness on the importance and application of standards and promote the services of the Directorate in this respect
• Promote standardization as a technical activity and integral yet distinct function of management in the country.
