The Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr. Hassan Fakhro chaired yesterday the 14th Price Control Committee.
During the meeting, they emphasis on the action taken by the General Administration of Customs of the Ministry of the Interior to rent a land to assemble trucks and clear customs procedures of the trucks to be separate from the immigration. As well as to determine a special path for an open trucks of fruits and vegetables because they get spoil easily. They also commended the steps taken during summer holiday period to all trucks loaded with food and cement to pass during peak hours and it might be fully applied.
The Minister confirmed the need to enhance consumer perceptions among consumers through outsourcing alternatives in the local market in order to reduce the focus on particular type of goods, which lead the increase of the prices due to high demand.
Dr. Fakhro directed food traders and supermarkets owners in the country the need to provide food for consumers throughout the year, especially in social and religious events such as Ramadan and Eids. On the other hand, the food traders confirmed the decline of some foodstuff at least 20% such as vegetables oil prices decline 30%.
The Minister confirmed the need to exports food from different sources and not depend on one source. Also to provide location to store foodstuff to ensure not to increase the prices.
During the meeting, they discussed to establish foodstuff company that will contribute to export a lot of goods.
Dr. Fakhro also pointed the ministry’s initiative to activate collective purchase of foodstuffs with GCC.
The price control committee examined steps to establish agricultural land outside Bahrain to plant basic materials. They also searched the possibility to build greenhouses in Bahrain.
